If a deer runs , it runs There is little you can d If a deer runs , it runs
There is little you can do about that..
But you can do other things to help aid in a recovery ..πŸ¦ŒπŸ•
Mark where you were stood when you took the shot.
Try and mark the general area where the deer was stood when it was shot or the shot site if you find one..
Maybe even mark the last place you saw it before it disappeared into cover..
Mark any signs of blood splatter in your initial search..
Don’t spend all night searching for it in vain..
Why not Just Give your local tracking team a call for help or advice
Find their numbers here

Put in your post code ..
move the slider till your nearest teams show up as pins on the map..
Drop them a call or a text as soon as you can to speed up the recovery process..
Why wait till the next day , as they may be free to come that night or first thing in the morning …

Stalker called to say his client had taken a 120m chest shot on a roe buck,
Sound of the strike sounded good but the deer took off into the wood.
They followed blood for a short distance after which the blood trail had dried up.
So decided to call for a dog incase ..
Jon Sale & Ava went that evening and soon onto the shot site..
They tracked into the wood and a further 100m + they tracked to a dead roe buck
Well done Jon & Ava πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Following on from Alan & Skye’s successful recov Following on from Alan & Skye’s successful recovery the other day..
It’s alway good for UKDTR to read such feedback πŸ¦ŒπŸ•
The stalker/Guide made this comment and was happy for us to post it..
Thank you @Ian
for your continued support πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks to Alan & Skye for almost immediate response to my call. Client had successfully taken a Fallow from a small herd, then following up with a shot on a second beast. After ten minutes I observed the couched beast still had its head raised and started to stalk to a position where I could safely dispatch it. As we closed, the head came up and the deer leapt to it's feet, before pronking off into adjacent woodland. Faced with a beast that was fully mobile and rather than 'pushing it' further I elected to call for help. I did NOT closely approach the tracks or the site where it was couched, knowing that hunters desperate to follow up, will often cross & walk the scent away from the deer's route, making the track unnecessarily difficult for the hound. Alan was soon en-route from home, arriving within a couple hours. Dog was dressed for war and released onto the bed, which showed a few patches of light blood. She soon picked up the spoor and after a short track of 200 yds, located the beast. It was dead, having exhausted its life in that last run. Folks, get the UKDTR telephone number onto your phone, it is like having Batman on speed-dial. Reassuring and will sort out your problems, while being dressed in an unusual costume! πŸ™‚ Seriously, a major asset for any stalker - there is a huge difference between a blood-trained tracking hound and a dog trained for a bit of beating.

A good recovery for one of the tracking teams yest A good recovery for one of the tracking teams yesterday..
The deer had run after an initial good chest shot and laid down after around 200m..
The stalkers gave it time before approaching closer to get safer shot..
At around 100m from the deer ..
the deer suddenly got up and ran again with no safe shot available.
As the stalkers reached the wound couch they found just a spot of blood and then decided to back out and call for assistance.
Another 150m or so from the wound bed Alan & Skye tracked to a dead deer ..
Thanks to the Stalker for making the call and putting your trust in UKDTRπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
Well done Alan & Skye on the recovery πŸ‘

A good result for one of our tracking teams this m A good result for one of our tracking teams this morning..πŸ¦ŒπŸ•
Client had taken a chest shot on a muntjac buck which showed good signs of a strike ..
Deer jumped and ran off down the field into the hedge and disappeared..
Guide and stalker struggled to find any further signs but knew the shot was good..
They marked the shot site area and then called for a tracking team..
Nobby & Wilson took the call and went this morning at first light ..
With overnight rain that washed almost any existing signs away … after a short track in the way the deer ran..
There Lay in the ditch under the hedge they recovered the dead deer that was not visible to the naked eye or thermal ..
Well done to the guide for making the call πŸ‘πŸ‘
Also one happy stalker 🦌🦌
